Rotary in our District

Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland is divided into ‘Districts’, and ours is called District 1220, including parts of Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Please visit our District website for more information.

Our District Governor  (DG) – or our current governor – is David Hood from the Wirksworth Club.

Every year, we have a District Conference, which features inspirational speakers and visitors from around the globe. Register here to join us in Scarborough on 4th-6th October 2019!

Please watch the video below, which was produced by one of our club members, Alicia Reade to promote the upcoming conference. The song was specially written and performed by Alicia, with contributions from club members across our district! The video also features our Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland President Elect, Donna Wallberg, and District Governors Elect from the whole region, including our own DGE, David Hood. It was David who requested the Scottish feel to the song in order to promote his upcoming conference, being a proud Scot!

Our Immediate Past District Governor

Cheryle Berry
DG Cheryle Berry

Our previous District Governor (2018-2019) was the dynamic and inspirational Cheryle Berry M.B.E from the Clay Cross club in Derbyshire.

To add to Cheryle’s impressive list of lifetime achievements, including being a medical Doctor, she has been working recently with Virtual College to bring to us the campaign, ‘Prepared to Save a Life’ – a free online life-saving course. It is a truly innovative way to help each and every one of us be a potential life-saver.

Please visit Virtual College today and register to do this free training, supporting Cheryle’s fantastic innovation and potentially saving the lives of those around you.

A partnership has emerged between Rotary and other voluntary and trade organisations working in the area: specifically Belton Parish Council, Epworth Town Council, North Lincs County Council, the local Churches, the Isle of Axholme Local Produce Group and the Isle of Axholme Covid 19 Support Group. We’ve partnered to form ‘Epworth and Belton Good Neighbours’. Effectively, we’re a volunteer force that will help out vulnerable people in this time of need. Rotary was tasked with creating a leaflet which provided essential information to all the households in the area. Nick Mundy designed the leaflet and it will be posted out over the next couple of days. I’m now working on a list of protocols for local volunteers that they will need when carrying out work in the community. When the Coronavirus crisis emerged we knew that the Rotary year wouldn’t progress as we had imagined, but by reacting with appropriate urgency to events and working with others, our club is determined to uphold the Rotary motto of ‘service above self’. ... Today, as a club, we trialed an online meeting using Zoom Video Communications ahead of our upcoming new-style digital Monday meeting. Resident techs Ian Mayer and Twinkle Tec were impressed with the enthusiasm and determination of the many members of the club who strived to download, set up and join in on this test run. The first wave of participants involved 10, and the next wave a couple more new ones who managed to join in. Well done to all involved!! See you Monday! ... See MoreSee Less
